Treating Postural Correction & Scoliosis

Postural correction and scoliosis management focuses on restoring alignment, improving function, and preventing long-term discomfort or injury.

Postural issues can arise from a variety of everyday habits, such as prolonged sitting, poor ergonomics, repetitive movements, or muscle imbalances. Over time, these habits can lead to muscular strain, joint stiffness, reduced mobility, and even chronic pain, especially in the neck, back, and shoulders.

Scoliosis, is a condition characterised by an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. It can be present from childhood (idiopathic scoliosis) or develop later in life (degenerative or functional scoliosis). While mild cases may go unnoticed, more significant curves can lead to pain, reduced flexibility, and in some cases, breathing difficulties or postural asymmetry.

Seeking treatment can help to prevent chronic pain and discomfort, improve mobility and function, avoid long term complications such as spinal deformities, nerve compression or breathing difficulties and boost confidence in appearance. Whether you're experiencing discomfort or have been diagnosed with scoliosis, early assessment and targeted treatment can make a significant difference in your long-term health and wellbeing.

The Physio 1 to 1 Approach to Assessing Postural Issues and Scoliosis

During your initial consultation, our experienced physiotherapists will understand your history, daily habits, symptoms, and goals. You may be asked specific questions such as: When did you first notice changes in your posture, do you experience pain or stiffness in certain areas, have you had any injuries or previous diagnoses such as scoliosis or does prolonged sitting, standing, or activity make your symptoms worse? These insights help us understand the cause of your condition.

We’ll also carry out a physical assessment to look at how your body moves and how your spine is aligned. We’ll check things like your posture, shoulder and hip levels, flexibility, strength, and overall movement. We might do a few tests, such as the Adam’s Forward Bend Test (commonly used to screen for scoliosis) or other checks to spot imbalances or areas that need attention. This comprehensive, one-on-one approach allows us to create a tailored treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and sets you on the path to better alignment, improved movement, and long-term relief.
